Kurdish project
I'm working on an idea to mount an exhibition highlighting the problems
faced by the world's Kurdish population. I became aware of the Kurdish
problem several years ago. I was following the Gulf conflict with interest
because of my background in military aerospace systems. The Kurds were
losing their homes and their human rights. Trying to make sense of the
situation, I researched the origins and sad fate of the Kurdish people.
These are people with no voice or land and a culture under extreme pressure.
Did you know that the Kurds have no songs about love? For many years, they
have not had the luxury of being able to rejoice in the joys of life. Thoughts
of land and liberty take precedence over the emotions that we take
for granted.
I'm now seeking a photographer to collaborate with on this project.
The exhibition would feature my large colour abstracts alongside photographic
images illustrating the plight of the Kurds. The stark contrast between
the optimism of my own work and the reality of the Kurdish life today would
highlight their sad fate in the most forceful way I can imagine.
I am trying to interest individuals and public bodies in sponsoring
an exhibition to tour as extensively as possible. This might trigger enough
public response to make a difference. If you feel that you would like to
participate or contribute in any way, please let me know.
