Arms of the Morgans of Llantarnam Or, a gryphon segreant sable Sarah Morgan, the mother of Daniel Boone. Some years ago I wrote about the Morgan dynasty of Monmouthshire in connection with an item on Pencoed Castle. Since that time, several US visitors have pointed out that Daniel Boone's mother was born Sarah Morgan, and that certain American publications indicated that Sarah was descended from this illustrious line. (For example: "A History of the Morgan Family From The Year 1089 To The Present Times" by James Appleton Morgan, New York, 1897-1902). However, Mrs. E. Kitteredge Sims in her History of the Boone, Bryan and Morgan Families says "Every effort has been made to learn something of the ancestry of Sarah Morgan, wife of Squire Boone but without appreciable results". Update August 1999: Mr. W. D. Scroggins has carried out valuable research in America and Wales. He has found certain problems with the James Appleton Morgan book mentioned above and laments the lack of documentary evidence for the Morgan / Boone link referred to.
