| The Harper family - Wales, the U.S.A. and Canada. | ||
We recently received mail from Sylvia Harper Nelson in the US. Sylvia owns
a charming old photograph which has the family name and a farm location
written on the reverse (The Harper Family, Cwm Farm, Shirenewton, Chepstow).
She wondered if we had any ideas for researching this family and its history
here in Wales. Many years ago, some of the Harpers moved from Shirenewton
to another farm, which happens to be located just a couple of fields
away from the home of the Data Wales website. In short order we were able
to mail Sylvia with the pictures below - from an early portrait photograph
of the previous generation. It appears that this adventurous family
moved from Hereford across the border into Wales (at some time early in
the 19th century) and that sons left to seek adventure in both the U.S.A.
and Canada. Sad to say, we cannot offer to help with similar
enquiries, but we are interested to see more early photographs taken in
Wales but transported to far away places.
