F. J. Hando drew the monument and described it thus:
"Sir Nicholas is the central figure. His seven sons are on the right, the first and last with bared knees, the first also bearing his breast, perhaps to exhibit a chain with a floral jewel. He is the only man shown with parted hair; the others wear hoods. Of the seven daughters, the three nearest the centre display strings of large beads suspended from their waists; the fourth wears on her skirt a rose; the fifth a pendant."
